Today is the North Texas Metroplex Election Day!
There are two parts that concern me:
1. The Hicks/Gilliam city council district 8 race here in Ft. Worth,
2. The "strong mayor" proposal in Dallas.
I'm hoping for a Hicks victory, because she is the Democrat. Gilliam won't do anything for the district.
The strong mayor proposal in Dallas NEEDS TO BE DEFEATED!!! If Republican Laura Miller gets that proposal passed, she will become a city dictator. She will eliminate the city council's authority, she will obliterate the voice of African-Americans, and she will damage the environment. She will turn the city into a 1950 segregation city. LET'S DEFEAT THAT PROPOSAL!

Well, May 7 is the Fort Worth City Council Election. The candidiates
District 8 are:
Democrat: Kathleen Hicks (my whole family is voting for her)
Republican: Monnie Gilliam
Well, my problem? I live in a mainly Democratic district, registering more votes for Democratic candidates on a city, state, or national level. But, Gilliam is popular because he lives only ONE STREET away. That means that on my street, and his home street, "VOTE Gilliam" signs are popping up everywhere, along with scattered signs elsewhere. That scares me. There are a bunch of "Hicks for City Council" signs too, but Gilliam signs outnumber them.
One good thing: I live in the central areas of Dist. 8. The northern areas are big Hicks supporters, and the southern sections too. Those areas represent most of the population. Tonight, I might take a short walk along my street, and count the signs. I'll never know the result until the election...anyway, I think that Hicks got over $29,000 more than Gilliam.
The high was 84. There were a few altocumulus patches in the morning, changing to a mix of cirrus, cirrostratus, cirrocumulus, and altocumulus by onn, and becoming all altocumulus and cirrus by afternoon. The wind was from the south, up to 15 mph. No rain today, although there's a chance of storms all this week.
